Costa Rica Contest

THIS CONTEST IS NOW OVER! THANK YOU FOR ENTERING! PUBLIC VOTING WILL BEGIN SHORTLY!

My solo first trip was to Costa Rica in 2003. I had never been out of the country before, and I went with a company called Gap Adventures. I don’t even remember how I found them, but I liked what they stood for. They are an eco-friendly, sustainable tourism company. (Check out my recent interview with their founder Bruce Poon Tip). That trip put me on the path that brought me here. I left Costa Rica with an insatiable appetite for travel. This year, I want to start someone else on the path towards becoming a travel junkie. With that said, I’m happy to announce that, in conjunction with Gap Adventures, I am giving away a FREE TWO WEEK TRIP TO COSTA RICA (WITH AIRFARE)! Pretty amazing, huh? Here are the details on how to enter and win:

What do you win? Gap Adventures Costa Rica Explorer plus airfare. Yes, that’s right, not only do you get a two week vacation, but you also get the plane ticket there too. This trip is only for one person.

How do you win? To win this great prize, you need to write a 550 word blog post (to put on your blog) or create a 1 ½ minute video (to put on a video hosting site like YouTube or Vimeo) answering the following question: “Why do you want this trip, and what do you hope to get out of it?” Pretty easy! Just tell us why deserve this lovely prize.

Your blog entry must include a link back to this announcement page as well as mention that Nomadic Matt and Gap Adventures are giving this trip away and that it is our contest you are entering.

Wow, awesome contest! I went to Costa Rica back in 2005 for two weeks and had a real blast – so much to do and see there. I’m looking forward to watching the video entries already.

  2. Carrie says:

Awesome! I did the South American route in 1996 and loved every second of it. It was my first big trip abroad and I contracted a serious case of the travel bug while on it. What an incredible way to get someone started on the road to being a full-fledged travel junkie!

  3. Wow Matt, this is an amazing contest. I have friends who have done organied tours and the ones who have gone with Gap Adventures speak very highly of how they run their show. Congrats!

  4. Adam says:

Sounds pretty cool to me. And the dates work perfectly – it’s literally the 2 weeks before I plan to leave on my RTW trip!

  5. AnnaI says:

Nice to see a contest open to people all over the world, and not just the standard “must be a legal resident of the US”.
PS. Won’t be applying since my sis and mom live in Costa Rica and I might be heading that way anyway soon.

  6. Okay yeah. This trip is MINE.

  7. That’s a hell of a give away Matt! Well done for bagging a prize like that to give away. I’d love to enter but I think that might be defying the point somewhat… Good luck to those who enter!!!

  8. Trotter says:

great giveaway, matt!! congrats on getting such an incredible contest going!

  13. Great prize Matt! Costa Rica is a great country and someone is really going to enjoy getting this for the New Year.

2 weeks is a good amount of time to spend there so that you can see all facets of the country. You’ll spend some time in a van going from one part of the country to another, but for me those were some of the best times of the trip, especially when you have a great group of people like I did.

  14. Kine says:

This is an amazing prize, Matt! Way to go :)

  15. Dave says:

  17. Stevie Boy says:

Three years ago my best mate suggested we go to Costa Rica for a week. He had lived there a couple of times and needed to go back for a few hours’ business. He organized the whole trip: rental 4-wheel drive, where to go, hotels etc. He speaks Spanish fluently and I new enough to get by. I loved it so much, I went back the following summer for 6 weeks; 4 weeks in language school and 2 weeks traveling alone and with new Costa Rican friends. Last summer I went back with my daughter for 6 weeks; 4 weeks at school and 2 weeks traveling. So you can imagine by now I speak Spanish really well and I know the country just as well thanks to wonderful Costa Rican friends.
Going to Costa Rica feels like walking into a National Geographic documentary. I feel so privileged to have been able to stand beside a massive female turtle and watch her laying her eggs on a rainy, windy night on a desolate Atlantic coast beach.
I suggest paying a little more for a room with a view at the Smithsonian Observatory Lodge at Arenal and spend part of the night watching and feeling the glowing red mini-eruptions from the volcano which fills your panoramic window.
    Pura Vida!
