Amatuer Traveler Podcast- A good podcast about various destinations in the world. Asian Ramblings- Steve is an ESL teacher and a photographer in China. His postings give a glimpse into Chinese life. His photos tell thousands of words. Backbakker’s Travel Blog- One woman’s vagabonding from India, with excellent photos that will keep you dreaming of curry and the Taj. Collazo Projects- Julie is a Matador Travel editor (among other things) and runs an excellent travel blog about writing, meaningful travel, and shares her wonderful travel tips from her adventures living in multiple countries. She is currently in Columbia. Cool Travel Guide- Musings of a professional travel writer. Geo Traveler- An excellent site containing amazing photos of the world. Killing Batteries- Another travel writer, Leif Pettersen, works for Lonely Planet and is currently in Romania researching their next book. His blog is witty and filled with fun travel facts. Make sure to read the interview he did for this site. Nerdy Nomad- Kristy is a web designer who uses her income to travel the world. Her blog has great insights on web design, blogging, travel writing, and traveling. Nomad4ever- One ex-cubicle drone’s journey into discovery around the world. Good photos and interesting stories. Travel Blissful- Just another good, and very popular, travel blog. Travel Rants- A good site with various travel industry information. Wandering Why- A blog that follows the journey of one married couple’s desire to break away from the cubicle and see the world. General Travel Eurotrip- Good information and a forum about Europe by backpackers. Lonely Planet- The guidebook king. They also have a good forum where you can ask about anything. There website is a good resource. Dave’s ESL Cafe- Looking to teach overseas? This website has all the information you’ll ever need. STA Travel- Worldwide student/ young adult travel/tour company. Couchsurfing- This website allows you to stay on people’s couches or in spare rooms for free!! Having done it, I can say its a great way to save money and meet people. Hostelworld- Book hostels around the world. Darn Good Digs - Excellent recent of good places to stay around the world. Vagabonding- Rolf Potts, the king of Vagabonding, own website about the subject. Matador Trips- The Matador Community is dedicated to connecting travelers with other travelers, as well as providing travel tips, insight, and stories. I find a lot of their articles to be amazingly written and informative. Vagabondish- Originally, started a one man’s travel blog, the page has expanded into a travel daily. On the site you can read about travel highs and travel lows as well as travel tips and advice. Expatriates Blog- Ever wonder about the lives of ex-pats? Well, wonder no more. Expatriates Blog is a website were people share stories about living in other countries and offer advice about moving, adjusting, and living abroad. Backpacking Women on the Road- Backpacking travel information, safety tips, money matters and plenty of advice, resources and inspiration for women who love to travel on their own – or would if they could! |
Tour Companies Gap Adventures- For those who want a tour that lets them do what they want, this is the company to go with. Their tours are geared toward independent travelers who just want the hassle of booking taken care of! (Cheap too!) Intrepid Travel- Pretty much like Gap adventures but based out of Australia. Contiki Tours- For those 18-35 who want to party and be herded like cattle. The OZ Experience- For those in Australia, who want to meet young people and party. This is an operator that gives you a hop on/hop off option. The Kiwi Experience- The NZ version. |
