Win a $10,000 Trip Anywhere You Want!

By Nomadic Matt | Published April 5th, 2011

I get a lot of contest offers in my inbox each week and most of them get deleted. I occasionally follow up with a few that seem interesting but rarely does anything ever pan out. They usually have crazy rules, want me to do everything, or have a bad prize. The last time I had a good contest was when I gave away a video camera away last year. That’s how infrequent these are. But once in awhile a good contest comes along worth talking about and today, I’m happy to announce that I am partnering with Sony to give away $10,000 dollars to spend on a dream vacation plus a Reader Pocket Edition for you and a friend and a $100 Reader Store Gift Card. All and all it’s not too bad, especially since you can spend the $10k on any trip you want. You aren’t tied into some crazy rules.

How to Enter
Entry into this contest is pretty easy, just use the following widget below to fill out the entry form:

Enter between April 5 – April 19, 2011 to win this contest. Simply user the widget above and fill in a “post card” on where you want to go, why, and what you will read and you are done. Pretty simple.

Winner Selection
Like so many contests these days, the winner is determined by public voting so you’ll want to get everyone you know and their family involved to crush the competition. The voting period is between April 20 – April 26, 2011. When voting begins, entrants will receive an email notifying them to start getting votes and will be given a unique URL for their entry so you’ll be able to share it with everyone you know. (So yes, they can vote once per each day of the contest!)

Visitors to the main site, http://www.readergetawaygiveaway.com will be allowed to vote for their favorite entries once per day over the course of the voting period which ends April 26, 2011.

The person who submitted the postcard that receives the most public votes on at the end of the contest will be rewarded with the grand prize: $10,000 travel stipend, 2 Reader Pocket Editions and $100 in Reader Store gift cards.

The winner will be notified on or around April 28, 2011.

All the Legal Stuff I need to Include
No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited. Open to legal residents of the 50 U.S. & D.C., 18 & older. Begins 3:00:01 a.m. ET on 4/5/11 & ends 3:00:01 p.m. ET on 4/19/11. For official rules, visit www.readergetawaygiveaway.com. Sony Reader $10K Getaway Giveaway is sponsored by Sony Electronics Inc.

I wish it was open to Canadians as well :( What a great prize for whoever wins it. In a sense, I hope it goes to somebody who has been itching for that ultimate trip, but for whatever reason just hasn´t had the chance to do it before.

Do you have to be a American to enter? Or can you be in the US on a valid visa to enter? I REALLY WANT TO ENTER!!!!!

Winner announced on April 28?! My birthday!

It’s a sign!

Blame Sony! Sorry, non-americans!

I have a question – So are we suppose to write it as if we are writing it to YOU, matt? Or anyone in general? It’s a little confusing – thanks!

NomadicMatt

Either or! You pick!

So sad that it’s only open to Americans! You guys get all the great competitions (and the British too, come to think of it)

I really hate there competitions that are now nothing more than a popularity contest. Most votes wins is stupid IMO.

Aw, I was so excited about this untill I read “Open to legal residents of the 50 U.S. & D.C”.
I wish that just once those of us who live in the world outside of the US could also win cool prizes :/

But non the less it’s a cool competition if you are valid for participation :)

I second the popularity contest issue. Can’t we just be judged on our own merits instead of how many “friends” we have? So many contests now are bought and sold. Just look at the facebook/twitter/social media pages created to trade/buy votes. It’s a joke.

Have a legitimate contest and you’ll have my entry. You’ve just saddened this longtime reader. Hope whoever does “win” does so legitimately. But somehow the way these things go, I doubt that’ll happen…

Most big contests these days are social voting. I’m still torn on how I feel about them. But I’ll remember your concerns when I have my 5 year giveaway in July and try to make something more appealing to everyone.
