The 51 Hour Book Giveaway of Goodness

how to travel the world nomadic mattOne month from now, my book, How to Travel the World On $50 A Day, will be released in paperback. For those who don’t know the story, I originally offered this as an e-book before it was picked up by Penguin Publishing. I worked for a year to turn it into an amazing 272-page, 60,000+ word guide to all things budget and long-term travel-related (hence the title)! The book contains never before discussed tips, tricks, and travel stories. There’s a lot of information and detail in the book you’ll never find on this blog.

I’m really proud of this book. It’s surreal to think I’m going to be able to walk into a book store and see my name on the shelf. Or that I might even run into someone buying my book! Wouldn’t that be completely awesome?

But today I want to announce an amazing pre-sale giveaway for my book. For the next 48 hours starting now (12:00 pm EST) until 3 p.m. on January 11th, 2013, I’ll be offering the following special pre-order packages, featuring extra goodies, travel discounts, time with me, and more with each order. (Note: This was extended by 3 hours because the website was down for a bit this week!)

I really hope you will purchase this book. I don’t come out and explicitly ask for anything from you all but the success of this book means everything to me. To use a poker term, I went “all in” and what happens with this book will determine the future of this blog. If I’ve helped you save money on your travels and realize some of your travel dreams, this is your chance to return the favor and help me realize one of mine. Knowing that readers of this blog support this venture means the world to me. Even if you don’t need the book, gift it to someone and help them to experience the wonders of travel that have brought you and me so much.

So I thank you in advance for any and all of your support of my book release. With your help, let’s make this book #1 in travel and help more people broaden their travel horizons.

I have read your blog off and on for over a year now and found it both inspiring and enlightening. I just have a couple questions regarding the various packages. Is there a deadline for using the perks? I.e. if I were to get a package with 10% off G Adventures, would I have to book a trip by a certain time this year or is the offer permanent until used. Also, is there a limit to which tours could be booked?
    Thanks,
    Ben

While certainly congratulations on a book release are in order. And anyone who gets this far should be proud. And I have been following your emails a bit. But it does sound like this isn’t really a “giveaway” as much as “if you buy the book or package, you get coupons for stuff that is worth more than the price of the book”. If it is a giveaway, I think it could be a bit more clear in the email and lead in on this page. Just a thought. Congratulations again on the release.

and feel free to delete the preceding comment and this one if you like. My intent is not in any way diminish your efforts.

  4. Is the book better in paper or electronic? Does it have workbook style guides with sections I would want to come back and reference or is it good to read novel style on a Kindle? Just deciding which version to buy. Thanks!

    • Liz

Congratulations Matt! I’d like to know about the Rail Europe pass too for the hundred books. What pass is this? I might be in for 100 for the right pass :-0

  5. Hey Matt,
My girlfriend and I are about to launch on a 1 year backpacking adventure, and plan to use your book to help us. Is there a way to get a paperback and kindle version in 1, or do you have to buy them separately?
    Thanks, and happy trails!

    • NomadicMatt

Unfortunately, you have to buy them separately. That’s a decision the publisher makes and I have no control over.

      • No problem, we’ll go electronic then. Thanks for the quick response, as well as all the inspiration and tips!

  6. So my my travel budget is a little tight right now. I was in the supremarket today and I was debating a $10 dollar bottle of wine, or Matt’s book. Right away I had to choose your book, over cheap wine and a hangover. I came home preordered it, and I shit you not 10 minutes later my buddy came over unannounced with a bottle of wine. So now I get you book and an err…hangover.
