Nomadic Matt’s Travel Secrets
By NomadicMatt | Published: March 14, 2010
Everyday my inbox is flooded with travel related questions. Where is good to go? How is this itinerary? Any suggestions on how to work overseas? What should I do before I go away? How much do things cost? How do I stay safe? The list goes on and on. After over 3 ½ years of travel and 2 years blogging about it, I have a lot of information to share. Sometimes it’s hard to dig through two years of tips, tricks, and information. Moreover, I’ve been getting requests for me to put all my secrets in one place. Giving the demand for such a book and to help answer all the questions and topics that don’t always fit into a neat and tidy blog post, I created:
Nomadic Matt’s Secrets to Successful World Travel
This 140 page ebook will help you demystify world travel, help you plan your trip, figure out costs, save money, and answer all the questions people normally have about a trip around the world. This book is broken down into three sections:
Pre-Trip Planning: This section covers everything you need to know about how to plan your trip, what to pack, how to find cheap flights, what to do with your stuff, and much more!
On the Road: All the information you need about life on the road from finding hostels, getting free accommodation, getting around, working overseas, teaching English, volunteering, and more!
Coming Home: How to deal with the emotions of coming home and advice on what to do next.
Each section provides detailed information on that topic, tips on saving money when applicable, and links to resources on the web. So how is this ebook different than my blog? Well, I cover a lot more topics in the ebook and give you more in depth information than a blog post can cover on:
How to use frequent flier miles to get free tickets and fly business class.- Buying a backpack and packing tips.
- How to bank overseas, avoid ATM fees, and use your bank to make you money!
- Provide sample travel itineraries.
- Provide sample travel budgets to help better estimate costs!
- How to find work overseas.
- How to volunteer overseas.
- What to look for in a hostel.
- How to get the most out of your Eurail pass.
- What to do when you come home.
- How to save money for your trip.
- What to look for in travel insurance.
- And much, much more!!!
This book covers all the aspects of a long term round the world trip. I remember when I started traveling- I had no clue where to begin. What kind of backpack should I buy? What should I pack? What ‘s life like on the road? Will I make friends? Do I need a RTW ticket? What do I do with my stuff? I spent hours on the internet looking up information and even bought Rough Guides’ first time around the world in hopes of figuring it all out. Back then there wasn’t a lot of information on the internet and while forums and some sites provided some information, they didn’t provide it all.
My ebook on how to travel the world is meant to leave you without the bewilderment and questions I had when I left to travel. The information in the book is the kind that can only come with experience on the road. It comes from making mistakes, learning lessons, and trying to figure out how to make your way around the world. A lot of times people get nervous before they leave for a trip because of all the unknowns. People don’t like the unknown. Reading this book will show that getting around the world isn’t as hard as you thought it is and once you look at it in an organized way, there’s nothing to be worried about!
Even if you don’t plan to travel around the world, this book contains tips and advice for saving money while you travel. Many of the tips and tricks in my book can be applied to any type of travel. Everyone wants to save money on flights, know what kind of travel insurance to buy, find cheap accommodation, and avoid ATM fees. You don’t have to be a long term, RTW traveler to get something out of this book.
This 140 page book is only $9.99! Get it before the price goes back up!!! That’s not a lot of money considering the investment most round the world trips cost. This ebook will also save you hundreds of dollars while on the road with the tips and tricks I give you. You can purchase the book via PayPal or Google Checkout:

Great job Matt! I’m sure it will be a huge success – it sounds like it has a lot of awesome tips!
hmmm sounds like an interesting book.
You have heaps of free info on your site about this stuff already, so just wondering if in the book these things will be expanded on and if you go into more detail than what we can read on here for free or is it just a collection of your old blog posts?
As I said in the intro, all those bullet points are for information not found on my blog. I made sure this book wasn’t just a collection of old blog posts but had a lot of new and useful information in it.
This should be cool for lots of people thinking / trying to “get going”.
That said, props for actually finishing some work on the road, it’s really hard to get “down to business”, I’m sure you know what I mean.
Also those of you reading this and thinking of going – be prepared for some major change in your very chemistry. What was once cool is now dreadfully boring and the thought of 9-5 will give you a migraine.
Good luck,
Great job, Matt!!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats on all the hard work!
Wow. This is some awesome stuff. I love vacations and looking to make it my goal to travel the world once in my lifetime. This ebook will come handy for me.
this looks great mate! how long does it take to write an ebook like this?! i would definitely have benefited from this back 3 years ago when i set off, as im sure, so would you! good luck and hope all potential readers take the plunge, get it and save themselves a fortune
The ebook took me a month to write and design.
That’s a very good price for all that information.
Thanks for the post. I often wonder if books like this are too good to be true but it looks like you summed it all up. Very cool!
Great idea! Good luck with your e-book!

Matt – only just discovered your site. A brilliant idea. And the book sounds very useful too (could have done with something like that first time I set out). Also sounds like the perfect accompaniment (blatant plug alert) to my own books – the Speak the Culture series, cultural guides to different countries. Cheers
Congratulations Matt on your new e-book! It’s wonderful that you’re sharing your world travel secrets! Wishing you great success!
Thanks!
Hey matt,

Thanks! I am glad you liked it. Tell others!
I’m a 40 year old seasoned world traveler, however I still found many valuable and useful tips in your ebook.
Very happy with the purchase
Thank you,

Hi Matt,
I’ve followed your blog for some time and have enjoyed your many destinations. I decided to finally bite the bullet and purchase your ebook a the great price! Thanks! ~julie
Hi. I am about to order, and I have a question: Do you come across many “older” travellers? By older I mean over 60. There are reasons I probably can’t travel properly for about a year and a half (genuine reasons, not excuses! i.e. I would lose a lot of money I can’t live without) but then I intend to throw all caution to the winds and go. You are young, healthy and male, so maybe the implications in not being any of those things hasn’t yet crossed your consciousness, I don’t know. I am going to order anyway, just wonderin’! Oh, and wish I had discovered your site when you first started it really is interesting, informative and fun. Many congratulations.
I meet a few here and there.
This is such a very useful blog. I love to travel and for sure your tips will help me a lot. Thanks. =)
Good stuff! Is that first picture from Tenerife? and is that El Teide behind you? That is my homeland and it looked very familiar. Thanks for all the tips!
No, that’s a photo from New Zealand’s tongariro crossing.
Bought this e-book and finished it in a matter of hours. Loved it.
Thanks! That’s always great to hear!
