Win a Trip for Two to Morocco!

camel ride through morocco
As many of you know, a couple of months ago I ended my long-standing partnership with G Adventures. We both were going in different directions and they were no longer a fit for this website. What is important for me is to work with a company that has a great product and wants to work with this community and help us travel cheaper.

To that end, today, I’m officially announcing my new partnership with Intrepid Travel. Intrepid Travel is a small group tour operator with over 800 tours all over the world, has better prices than G Adventures, and also features strong commitment to the environment (they recently banned elephant rides from all their tours).

Intrepid is now the official tour partner of this site and, as such, will be offering a standing 10% off all their tours over $500 USD as well as free trip giveaways throughout the year. To get 10% off, use the discount code “11908” when you call their reservation line or book online.

I’ve always been a fan of Intrepid from afar and have encountered their tours all over the world. Now, I must admit, I haven’t taken a tour with them yet; we weren’t able to fit a tour into my calendar this summer, but in December I’m going on this same Morocco trip with them. However, when I announced the upcoming partnership back in June, many of you said you had been on their tours and loved them. I know many travel writers who hold them in high regard and I have trusted friends that work there. While I would like to have been on a tour before I announced this partnership, you overwhelmingly came out in favor of them, so I’ll trust your community as you often do mine and begin this partnership now. I don’t want you all to wait until December to start saving money.

And to kick off our new partnership, we’re giving away a trip for TWO people to Morocco.

Yup, two people to Morocco! So if you win, take a friend/loved one.

The Prize: A 15 day “Best of Morocco” tour!!

Day 1 Casablanca
Welcome to Morocco. Discover the Art Deco influences of this metropolis. Head out on personal explorations through Casablanca’s heart and admire some of its architectural gems, including the beautiful Hassan II Mosque and the imposing Cathédrale du Sacré Coeur.

Day 2 Rabat/Meknes
Stroll through Rabat’s serene kasbah before journeying to Meknes, the former capital of Morocco and the site of Sultan Moulay Ismail’s palace.

Days 3-4 Volubilis/Fes
Travel back to the days of the Roman Empire on a guided tour of the ruins of Volubilis. In medieval Fes, wander the narrow alleyways of the medina as the call to prayer floats over Fes el-Bali at dusk.

Day 5 Midelt
Journey through Morocco’s cedar forests in the Middle Atlas Mountains to the peaceful, rural village of Midelt. Stop by a handicraft workshop run by Franciscan nuns – a great place to pick up a beautifully crafted souvenir.

Day 6 Sahara Camp
After a camel ride into the Sahara desert, attempt a climb of the towering dunes. Later, fall asleep in a desert camp under a blanket of stars.

Days 7-8 Todra Gorge
Wake early and watch a golden sunrise over the desert before heading to the impressive palmeries of Todra Gorge. Feel like burning some energy? Why not go for a hike or try rock-climbing.

Day 9 Ait Benhaddou
Pass through Morocco’s film capital, Ouarzazate, on the way to the ancient fortified city of Ait Benhaddou. Explore the streets of this clay kasbah at a relaxed pace, then finish off the day with a meal of delicious couscous.

Day 10 Aroumd
Farewell the Sahara and head to the hills. Perched on a rocky outcrop, remote Aroumd offers stunning views across Morocco. This is the perfect base for exploring the High Atlas Mountains and a chance to experience traditional Berber culture up close.

Days 11-12 Essaouira
With its Norfolk Island pines and colourful fishing boats, relaxed Essaouira is a gem. Get acquainted with the town’s fascinating history on a guided walking tour and then enjoy free time to wander along the beach, visit art galleries or feast on freshly caught seafood.

Days 13-15 Marrakech
Explore the tantalising spice market in Marrakech and dine al fresco at a food stall in Djemaa el-Fna, or escape the buzz of the city in the shaded rooms of the Palais de la Bahia, a superb example of ornate Muslim architecture.

  6. john obrien

hello, unfortunately the application window doesn’t want to open for me.i’d rather this didn’t stop me from winning the trip to morocco.can you help me please.

  7. Scott

@Matt: What are the dates in Dec. when you’re going to be in Morocco? It looks very likely that I’ll be traveling there shortly after the Istanbul marathon (which is Nov. 16th). I’m tentatively planning something like Nov. 21st – Dec. 5th, at which point I have an award flight booked to Honolulu (I crave winter warmth). I’m definitely hoping to make a trek into the Sahara while I’m in or around Marrakech, so I’ll be checking Intrepid out as an option. I put a lot of value in your judgment, so this helps me narrow my short list. Anyway, if you’re there around that same time, a meetup would be cool if it fit your plans.

Is anyone having trouble accessing the competition form? I’ve tried clicking on the ‘rafflecopter’ link but then the page says ‘rafflecopter does not endorse this givaway’ or something like that. help!

  9. Dave

Congrats on new partnership! Nearly visited Morocco on recent round the world trip ,but too tired after 3 months living out of a suitcase. Now’s my chance, Africa is only continent I have yet to visit, so please “let it be” as the Beatles would say!

  10. Nicole Thames

I’m dreaming gold sand, morrocan tea, and the Alchemist on my lap. Please please please be me!!! So happy for your new live venture :)

  11. Diana

Funny that I was just looking at their website last week. A friend went with them to Cambodia and had a great time. I have never been to Morocco :)

  12. Michelle

Morocco’s been on my list of places to visit for quite a while – fingers crossed! :) I’m having an issue with the ‘share” links though – the Facebook link says it is invalid, and the email doesn’t have a link in it – help! 😛

  13. Efrutik

You are in one of my “home city’s” now! Berlin that is, hihi. Great advice on recharging for optimal travel enjoyment and staying motivated! Congrats on partnership with Intrepid and my fingers and toes are crossed for that win to Morocco. Would be EPIC!

  14. This is awesome! I just booked our first trip with Intrepid because of this discount. We’ll soon be off to Africa! Thanks for this having this great partnership.

  15. Like you Matt we have not done an Intrepid Travel tour yet. If and when we do a tour it will be with Intrepid. I love their small numbers and the things they see and do on their trips. When we were in Marrakech we spoke to some people who were on this trip (we bumped into them when we both did an Urban Adventures Marrakech tour). Anyway they were so impressed with the trip. We spoke to a mother and daughter who did the trip together and they both enjoyed it, so it is suitable for all ages, as long as you have an adventurous spirit. This trip encompasses places we did not see when we were there as independent travellers so we would love to do it.

  16. octavine

This trip sounds absolutely terrific! Congrats Matt on your new partnership with Intrepid. Can’t wait to read more about your travels. All the best to YOU!

  17. pauline

I went on this same trip with a few years – it was amazing!!! Morocco is a beautiful country with a wonderful culture, tasty food and friendly people. It was my first “guided” trip but Intrepid did a great job of mixing up “half day tours” and plenty of time to explore on your own. Our guide was a young 20-something native who made the trip a lot of fun. Enjoy! This was one of my favorite trips ever… every place you visit is incredible but Todra Gorge is extra special.

  18. Is somehow a way to unregister? I managed to login with my email but from the tablet it logged me in automatically with my Facebook account which is on other email account so I’m somehow registered twice, which is not pretty fair.
