We love Lanzarote, it's a great place to live and with plenty for visitors to see.I've also read Karl's book that Jen mentioned - not sure it can be relied on as a genuine travel guide!!!

Great post Nick. It's been dogged with the Lanzagrotty connotations for so long. We now have great selection of world class classical musicisans visiting here as well, as the wine, award winning cheeses. Remember its not frantically hectic with crowded beaches EVER!

It’s so lovely to see so many positive comments about Lanzarote. I still remember our first evening there as if it was yesterday. We lived in Caleta de Famara, a small village, on the northern west coast. The beach there is amazing.

I was in Lanzarote with my sister for a week four years ago. I still remember our first evening there as if it was yesterday. I know Tenerife much better though. The student life there is excellent; makes it great to hang out at for a few months, and it has the Teide, Spain's highest peak, which I managed to hike to the top of while I could! :D For accommodation of a week or more, check out loquo, the "craigslist" of Spain for some great ads. Speaking Spanish is a must for worthwhile prices though.

Lanzarote is great, I visited there briefly. I know Tenerife much better though. I love islands that are not packed with tourist and, authentic, and has preserved nature. The writer really was able to portray a nice scenic picture of the island. Lanzarote will be placed on my list of places I want to visit .

I never even heard of Lanzarote till I read this post. Parts of the island are in fact quite green, but the volcanic region tends to get most of the attention.

Hi Jen – I´ll have to check that book.
